Three juveniles suspected of starting fire at Evans Grain Elevator

$
0
0

Updating the investigation of the fire at the Evans Grain/Old Sugar Factory on April 27th, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Detectives have identified 2 male juveniles and 1 female juvenile that were involved in accidently starting the fire.  The juveniles had been playing with a lighter in the area that resulted in the building catching fire.  This case has been sent to the Bonneville County Prosecutor’s Office for review of possible charges at this time.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind parents to talk to their kids about the dangers and consequences of playing with fire and trespassing on private property, especially as we approach the dry season and fire danger is escalated.

KERNESS refused to get into the van because he did not want to sit in the available seat. KERNESS became belligerent with the hospital staff and refused to obey the directions of the van driver who was trying to help him get into the seat. Officers were called to the disturbance and the hospital staff trespassed KERNESS from the property. KERNESS was repeatedly offered the opportunity to get into the van or leave the property on his own accord and not be charged, to which he refused.
Another van arrived from the Pocatello Regional Transport. KERNESS was again given the opportunity to either take the van that was provided for him at no cost or, drive himself off of the property in his wheelchair or, he would be taken to the jail. KERNESS refused all of the options. As hospital staff requested he leave the property, he was placed into custody for Trespassing and transported to the Bannock County Jail.

IFPD to Host Coffee with a Cop on May 21
Idaho Falls, ID – The Idaho Falls Police Department is pleased to host its third Coffee with a Cop
event on May 21.
All community members are invited to attend. The event will be held on the Greenbelt at Memorial
Drive and B Street between 10 a.m. to noon. Beverages and snacks will be served.
Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and
learn more about the department’s work in our neighborhoods.
The majority of the contact that law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies or
emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship
building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are
unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed,
one‐on‐one conversation.
“Our past Coffee with a Cop events have been successful and we hope to see continued growth with
the program as we engage more with citizens,” Idaho Falls Police Chief Mark McBride said. “These
interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”
Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice and
Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. The program aims to advance the practice of
community policing through improving relationship between police officers and community
members one cup of coffee at a time.
This event will be held in conjunction with the third‐annual Idaho Falls Fraternal Order of Police 5‐
0 5K run which benefits scholarships for local youth.
Media Note: For additional information regarding this release, contact Joelyn Hansen.
